You said, we did

We're always open to feedback that helps us understand what we're doing well and learn ways we could improve.

What have we been doing?

  • In response to feedback calling for stronger allied health networks and more clinically focused events, we’re launching AAG Conversations: Research to Practice in 2026. This conversational-style webinar series, designed to better connect research, policy and practice, will showcase the work of AAG Research Trust awardees to demonstrate how evidence-based findings can meaningfully inform everyday practice.

  • Following feedback calling for a stronger social media presence, AAG significantly elevated its LinkedIn engagement throughout 2025. Our community grew by 1,020 followers to 3,398 by December 2025, generating over 126,000 impressions, 4,000 reactions, and nearly 1,000 unique visitors. Conference communications performed particularly well, delivering a 43% lift in organic impressions, 110% increase in page searches, and 200% spike in new followers during conference week.

  • In 2024, 32% of post national conference respondents recommended adding local or cultural experiences to the program. In response, the 2025 Mparntwe Alice Springs conference dinner was held outdoors and included Aboriginal dance and an engaging stargazing show. Survey feedback and social media posts featuring the dinner confirm the success of the evening as a standout for attendees. View the full 2025 Conference Evaluation Report.

  • We conducted our bi-annual member survey in early 2025, to further understand what we're doing well and learn more ways to add value to AAG membership. You can read highlights from the survey in the 20 March 2025 issue of Thursday Three. We look forward to implementing many of your suggestions in future.

  • In March 2025, we launched our official statement regarding ageist language to encourage our members, event participants, speakers and presenters to be aware of non-inclusive language. Respectful communication is key to building rapport and trust. It also adds credibility to your research, practice and personal relationships as it clearly shows that you value, hear, see and respect the older person.

  • In response to feedback received from members following our highly successful 'Ageism Awareness Day 2024 - End Ageism in Advertising' webinar in October 2024, a new AAG special interest group was formed. The Challenging Ageism SIG (CHALAGEISMSIG) promotes and facilitates discussion and collaboration among AAG members interested in raising awareness and challenging ageism. This includes providing advice and expertise to inform AAG’s policy and advocacy work relating to ageism and inclusion, highlighting issues of intersectionality across various forms of discrimination and prejudice, and promoting cross-disciplinary knowledge sharing and collaboration to advance anti-ageism research, policy, and practice initiatives. We welcome new co-convenors of CHALAGEISMSIG, A/Prof Rachel Ambagtsheer and Dr Bethany Wilton-Harding.

  • In late 2024, members of the AAG Research Trust Grants Committee were invited to share their feedback on the grant review process via an online survey and Teams meeting. In response to that feedback, we have made a number of improvements to the way we receive and review grant applications in 2025, including a new online application management platform, improved scoring tools to support scoring consistency, and updates to our mentoring agreement to better support the professional development of new committee members. We look forward to member feedback regarding these changes as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our grant programs.

  • In May 2024, AAG circulated to all members our Principles, Actions & Terminology for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Peoples to support cultural safety and respect at AAG conferences and events. We urge all AAG members and affiliates to work under the guidelines, informed through consultation and feedback from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members of AAG and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ageing Advisory Group (ATSIAAG).

  • In a true demonstration of ‘you said, we did’, we were proud to launch our new online community in 2023. This initiative is in direct response to member feedback, with AAG receiving a clear message that our members wanted a safe and secure way to communicate and engage with each other. Through the online community, AAG members can connect with each other, share news and information, and support each other in our professional endeavours.
